BC Business Law

Endeavor Law understands the concerns clients often have when considering whether or not to seek the advice or services of a lawyer.  Endeavor Law is committed to providing cost effective, transparent and when possible predictable pricing for all legal services.  This means not just offering various alternative billing arrangements, but taking the time to determine which alternative may be appropriate in the circumstances given a client's expectations regarding timing, cost and outcome.  This allows a client to weigh the costs of legal representation against the benefits and make an informed decision about how to proceed.

In many circumstances a small business or entrepreneur simply wants to obtain preliminary advice or ask some basic questions about matters like business structuring and expansion; director, shareholder or employment matters; obtaining or providing business financing and securities regulation; or options and issues  regarding buying, selling or combining a business. Endeavor Law offers a one hour legal consultation service at a low flat legal consultation fee, applicable taxes extra, of $300 (subject to required conflict search and client identification) to ensure that small businesses and entrepreneurs get timely and affordable basic legal advice. A consultation may be all that is necessary in the circumstances. If not, Endeavor Law would be pleased to provide more comprehensive legal advice or services once formally engaged or, if warranted, provide a referral to specialized or local counsel better suited serve your legal needs.

FEE ARRANGEMENTS

CONTINGENCY ARRANGEMENTS

Endeavor Law can provide legal representation and services with respect to many transaction matters (for example, business combinations or financing) by way of a value pricing or success fee billing basis. Value pricing sets eventual fees to be charged based on the value of the work done.  Success fee billing provides an upside component payable only for a successful result. Both billing alternatives tend to better reward efficiency and outcome.   Value pricing or success fee billing will be set out in writing at the start of any engagement and will specify the precise scope of the services to be provided and the valuation or success criteria to be applied. In all circumstances disbursements (such as filing fees), expenses (such as photocopies or couriers) and applicable taxes will be applied separately.

FIXED FEE ARRANGEMENTS

For certain relatively routine or well-defined legal services (for example, the incorporation of a company) Endeavor Law can provide legal services on a fixed or "flat" fee basis.  Endeavor Law can also provide monthly fixed price retainer billing to act as outsourced "in-house"  counsel in order to smooth out the peaks and troughs of ongoing general business counsel. Fixed fee or retainer arrangements tend to provide the highest degree of transparency and predictability possible.  Fixed fee arrangements will be set out in writing at the start of any engagement and will specify the precise scope of the services to be provided and the fees to be applied. In all circumstances disbursements (such as filing fees), expenses (such as photocopies or couriers) and applicable taxes will be applied separately.

STANDARD HOURLY RATES

If not otherwise specified, Endeavor Law's legal representation and services will be provided on the more traditional hourly billing model used by most law firms.  Hourly billing is perhaps the least predictable, and often least efficient, billing model but is often used by default or when a legal matter is complex or the scope of work cannot be predetermined at the start of the engagement in any useful way. Endeavor Law will, however, provide detailed invoices and set out the hourly rates of the lawyers and personnel who will be responsible for providing legal services at the start of any engagement. In all circumstances disbursements (such as filing fees), expenses (such as photocopies or couriers) and applicable taxes will be applied separately.
